Paintball Injuries Are Rare!

First off, paintball injuries are not an everyday occurrence. In fact, many veteran paintball players experience a lifetime of paintballing without suffering a single serious paintball injury. Of course, many people find this hard to believe. After all, paintball looks incredibly dangerous. But the truth of the matter is... it is not!

A paintball field's most common paintball injuries involve accidents that could happen in any athletic pursuit.

I recently went to my local field, to survey the full time paintball referees. I asked them a series of questions on paintball injuries.....

such as how often does a paintball injury occur?

How serious are they?

Are Paintball Injuries a result of dangerous activity?

Well there responses will be very relieving to a lot of parents out there. Fortunately, paintball injuries are not that common. Most of the paintball referees that I questioned did not even have an example to discuss. Which made my next two questions considerably more difficult

Of the paintball referees that did witness a paintball injury, the referees suggested that injuries for this sport are both rare and relatively tame. Occasionally, a paintball player will accidentally roll their ankle, or dislocate an arm, or fall down on their face....... hold on a second..... all of those injuries seem rather serious.

Well the truth is, those injuries are serious. I mean, rolling your ankle can lead to some temporary, and potentially permanent damage. But think about the injuries noticed for a second. Are these injuries exclusively connected to the game of paintball? Or could these, so called "paintball injuries" occur in a wide variety of other extreme sports. Let's not even limit injuries to extreme sports.... could these injuries occur in a game of basketball? or even better yet.... could these injuries be inflicted on a jogger?..... Well yes, it's true. jogging and basketball, however, are not seen as dangerous.

Clearly, paintball has received a dangerous stigma that it does not deserve.

Let's take a look at the three most common paintball injuries.

Rolled Ankle

Accidental fall

Not only are these injuries rare for the game of paintball. These injuries are rare in any sport!!!

What does this tell you?? Well, the fact is that there are not enough examples of paintball injuries to go off of. And serious injuries almost never occur. The only serious paintball injury that CAN hospitalize it's players are eye related. But the paintball fields recognize that eye injuries can be serious, so paintball fields have safety measures in place that disallow players from participating without proper protection.

What does proper paintball protection mean? For the game of paintball, all that is completely necessary for adequate protection is a paintball mask.
