Cheap Paintball Gun - Sorry Airsoft!
Airsoft and paintball are two similar sports that have been competing against each other since..... well since both of them even existed. And paintball has been winning. By winning, I mean that paintball is the sport with the larger fan base. Their are about 4X as many paintball fans as there are airsofters. Still, paintball has become a ridiculously popular sport, even though airsoft does not have as many fans, it still has a whole lot.

And most of the time, a person chooses airsoft over paintball for one reason alone. And that is price. Paintball players will admit that airsoft is considerably cheaper than paintball. So paintball has lost, and is losing, a significant portion of its fan base to the game of airsoft. Don't get me wrong, paintball continues to dominate the extreme sport category, and its not even close. And that is because paintball excels in every other aspect other than price. But this economic depression doesn't help matters, and some people feel as though they just cannot afford paintball.

Well, I fear that we have lost too many paintball fans already, because most people don't realize how economical paintball gear can be. Paintball guns, in particular, can carry a very high price tag on them. But if you do your research right, it is possible to find a cheap paintball gun that will function very well on the paintball fields, very well indeed. So you don't need to do something drastic, like switch to airsoft.

My first paintball gun that I purchased from my local paintball shop was a Spyder rodeo. This cheap paintball gun only cost my around 150 dollars, and functioned reasonably well. Well enough to be decent on the paintball fields. And to be honest, while a 150 dollar gun will be inferior to the new bad boys on the block, I had a pretty sizable advantage against many of the rental paintball guns. Which is about 30% of the competition out on the paintball fields.

Because paintball is more popular, most new players flock to paintball to start their extreme sport initiation. For this reason, the people involved with airsoft are usually somewhat experienced players. Sure there are beginner airsoft players too, but they have most likely been converted from paintball (sadly). So despite the fact that you can affordably match your paintball gear with the airsoft pros, a beginning player will be more demolished on the airsoft fields, than a paintball public venue.

Your cheap paintball gun will not put you one the bad end of the paintball spectrum. Even with a cheaper paintball gun, you will still be able to compete with the majority of your opponents. No airsoft player could make the same claim. And this is because, while airsoft is cheaper, most of your opponents will be greatly skilled. This is not to say that paintball won't have skilled players, paintball will, its just that there will be a lot more joe blows playing paintball instead of airsoft.

So if you want a friendly introduction to a shooting sport, paintball will treat you more kindly. The only reason people choose airsoft, is because of the lower price tag. This lower price tag is somewhat of an allusion though, paintball is only more expensive if you buy a premium quality paintball gun. But paintball can be cheaper than most people think. Cheap paintball guns will not be too disadvantageous, and will cost about the same as a cheap airsoft gun.
